About Fiesta del Sol

Our 5th Annual Fiesta del Sol is a FREE two-day street festival celebrating the history, diverse cultures, and engagement of the people of San Diego. It is a fun, FAMILY-FRIENDLY, alcohol and tobacco free event focused on creating positive change by empowering our communities. Given the success of our previous three years, the 2010 Fiesta del Sol promises to be even better!

The Roger Cázares Scholarship

This scholarship is named in honor of a well-respected, long-time community leader, Roger Cázares, admired for his dedication to improving the lives of people in underserved communities. As an example, his vision and leadership led to the development of the MAAC Project Community Charter School as well as the Mercado Apartments in Barrio Logan, offering quality housing to low-income families.

2009 Highlights
  • Over 60,000 in attendance over 2 days
  • Eleven college students of diverse backgrounds were recipients of the 1st annual Roger Cazares Scholarship Fund
  • Six themed pavillions focused on Health, Education, Children, Community Action, Young Adults, and Arts and Culture
  • Over 25 interactive activities for children & families
  • Over 300 unpaid volunteers worked at the Fiesta del Sol
  • Over 100 food, non-profit, and business booths

Fiesta del Sol in Chicago

Fiesta del Sol-San Diego is modeled after the Fiesta del Sol in Chicago, which has been organized by JOB’s sister organization, the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council, for thirty-five years. The Chicago Fiesta del Sol draws over one million people, and is recognized as one of the four largest Latino street festivals in the United States. www.fiestadelsol.org
